Fan Clutch Malfunction
The vast majority of commercial trucks use a fan-clutch-based setup to engage and disengage their cooling fans. Rather than having your cooling fan spin at all times, your fan clutch will activate it when it may benefit engine performance and deactivate it when it won’t. For example, upon start-up, your cooling fan may not engage to facilitate the start-up process. When your engine reaches an adequate operating temperature, your cooling fan will activate to maintain that ideal temperature.
Malfunctioning Water Pump
Water pumps are designed to push coolant through your engine and coolant system components. If it fails, your coolant will remain static and unmoving. This prevents the absorption and dispersal process from happening and will inevitably lead to your engine overheating. Fortunately, this is typically an easy fix.
